Tips For Moving During Fall

woman getting ready to move

The spring and summer is the time of year that most people choose to schedule their move. The weather is warm, the kids are out of school, and vacation time can easily be taken from work, but the fall season is also a good time of year to move for many different reasons!

In the fall, movers are generally less busy so the chance of getting your desired moving date is often better. The scenery when driving from your old home to new home is generally more beautiful due to the changing foliage. Also, the weather is a bit cooler making moving tasks a bit easier to do, but still without the threat of snow or ice!

The experts at Long Island Moving and Storage agree that moving during the fall is a good move and want to help make the process as easy as possible. Listed below are some tips to make your fall move as successful as possible!

Fall moving tips:

  • In the fall the weather is cooler and the days are shorter, make sure to give yourself and the movers enough time to take care of moving tasks during the day when there is plenty of sunlight.

  • Wet fallen leaves can cover pathways or may cover over obstacles on your new property that you are not familiar with, this can lead to slip and fall injuries. Make sure to sweep covered pathways before moving items into your new home.

  • Wear appropriate clothing so that you are not uncomfortable while trying to take care of moving tasks. Dressing in layers can help- when you become too warm take off a layer, too cool put a layer back on. Wear shoes that give you good traction so you don’t slip and fall, don’t wear flip flops or sandals.

  • When moving with children, be sure to try and give them plenty of time to adjust to their new home and town before starting their new school. Make sure to meet with their new teachers to help make their transition as painless as possible.
